Pikachu & the Poke’ Ball…

Pokemon_Cake_01.jpg

We were asked to make a Pokèmon cake for our friend’s son’s birthday.  We were not very familiar with any of the characters but after some online research we saw that there were many to choose from.   The pokè ball is actually made of cake and all the lighting bolts are gum paste.  We made some coordinating cupcakes too!

I am impressed by the pokeball, but you should have done a bit more research on the characters. Pikachu (the one in the middle if you don’t know) is one of the main pokemon characters but it would have been a wiser choice to choose more popular characters for the other two or maybe even one of the trainers like Ash. My nephew wants a pokemon birthday cake this year. The only reason I say this to you is because he loves pokemon soo much and he is very picky about the characters he likes.

    Amanda,

It is true that we are no Pokemon experts! We were given pictures of the characters that the birthday boy wanted and we copied them exactly. I don’t know their names but it was what the client wanted and the client is always right! :)

Hi Heather - The entire cake is covered in fondant and all of the characters including Pikachu are made out of fondant. Hope that helps and good luck!

    Hi Heather,
The cake is covered in fondant. The poke ball is also cake using Wilton’s sports ball pan. Pokemon and his friends are made out of fondant. His tail (not pictured) is made out of gum paste and his face and tips of his ears are hand painted with food coloring. The name Plate was hand cut with a knife, as were the gum paste lightning bolts. Let us know if you have any other questions!

    Best Regards,
