About Us
Not Your Average Cake began in late 2007 with Meoi Plummer & Andrea Plant in St. Petersburg, Florida. Andrea was dabbling in cake decorating at home by herself, unknowingly so was her good friend Meoi. One day they decided to get together and make a cake as a team. At that very moment they knew they had a talent working together. Once their friends got wind of what they could do the cake requests started coming in. Currently they are making cakes for friends and family though it is their dream to someday quit their jobs, open up a licensed cake shop, and become full time cake divas.

“I never quite understood the phrase “you can’t have your cake and eat it to” until I started working with fondant. We create these amazing works of art that sometimes can take 12 hours or more, just to see them dissected. Luckily, our cakes taste so good, it is worth the pain of watching them go under the knife!
I have always liked baking but started getting in to decorating cakes about two years ago. Having worked in childcare all my life, I already had the creative side to me. Once I realized that fondant was a lot like play dough I knew I was a born natural! I have never taken a class or had any formal cake decorating training. One day I just said I want to make a cake like the ones you see on those TV shows. (Thanks for the inspiration Ace of Cakes!) My first cake was a butter cream 2-tiered cake with fondant decorations. I thought that was easy, so my second cake was a bit of an undertaking. I tried a four-tiered topsy-turvy cake. HA HA… It was a caketastrophe! But luckily, we learn from our mistakes. With every cake we make we learn new techniques and they get better and better. Meoi and I are a great team and both bring something a little different to each cake we create.”

“Seven years ago I was in the market for a wedding cake and stumbled upon a local cake shop that offered cake decorating classes. I decided to take a few since I had some free time on my hands and needed a new hobby. That’s where I learned the basics of cake decorating and realized that I really enjoyed it. My first few cakes were your simple butter cream iced cakes with piping similar to your local grocery store.
A few years later, a friend’s daughter wanted to make her own birthday cake so I offered to help her since I thought it would be fun. We had such a great time doing it, I decided to make my daughter’s 2nd birthday cake which was our first real undertaking. With the help of our friends the cake turned out beautiful (it’s the Little Mermaid cake on the website). From that point on, the requests for other cakes came flying in. So here we are today…Not Your Average Cake!
Currently my full time job is a project manager for a construction company. I’ve always loved the job because I get you start with a blank canvas, watch it come out of the ground and turn into these masterpieces. I guess that’s why I love cake making. You start with all the individual ingredients and once you put them together, they truly are works of art!”
